Time and Place

Beenie Man and Dougie Fresh performing at The National Stadium moments before the arrival of Nelson Mandela, released from incarceration only a year before. Beenie has called this a defining moment in his career: He performed a song deemed to be "slackness", in sharp contrast of the performers preceding him who all showed their joy at the most important African freedom fighter's impending visit, this was the largest such event since H.I.M. Haile Selassie visited in '66. Consequently the entire stadium fell silent before booing him and forcing him to vacate the stage.
